Charlie and the.

Is anyone else as insanely curious to see this as I am? I loved that book. And Danny, the Champion of the World.
Although it has to be said that Roald Dahl is frankly disturbed, and should be kept away from children at all costs. Unless you secretly resent how easily children sleep, or hate them.

Holy Smokes!!!
Yeah. I watched that freaky movie when I was a small child, possibly more than once. Then I forgot about it. Then someone mentioned it when I was in my late teens o early twenties and I discovered that IT FREAKED ME OUT!!! Even thinking about the stupid movie gave me the harsh heebie-geebies.
For the next ten years any mention of the movie sent me screaming from the room.
I eventually managed to overcome the phobia when I was 31 and sat down, alone, to watch the freakshow. Holy twisted shit batman! I can see how that would cause a small boy to suffer years of torment.
Roald Dahl was SATAN. I am most definitely not looking forward to a new version of this slasher/snuff/horror flick.
Did I mention that I am feeling much better now? I can even say Willie Wonka without getting the shakes…
Strangely, I’ve only seen bits and pieces of the original movie. I’m not even sure whether I’ve read the book, and if I did it didn’t make an impression on me. I think I read James and the Giant Peach, but the only Roald Dahl I distinctly remember reading was “A Piece of Cake”, an autobiographical short story about being shot down over North Africa in a Gloster Gladiator. Yes, more proof that I was really into war as a kid.
I don’t think I was ever a huge Roald Dahl fan so my reaction is a mealy-mouth’d “ho-hum”.
But we can hope that this movie is better than the 1996 version of James and the Giant Peach which Dermott affectionately refers to as “James and the Giant Reek”. Those songs were terrible!
Danny, the Champion of the World was good because it didn’t have any horrible disfiguration, dismemberment or violent abuse.
Man, that Dahl was kiddie Kafka. The blueberry girl still scares me.
I love Roald Dahl except for the fact that he is a horrible racist against witches. He villifies witches all over the place. We all know that witches are nice sweet people, obsessed by the Gilmore Girls, bon bons and feather boas.
I rather love the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I like that it doesn’t treat kids as dumb or hide the fact that bad things can happen to good little girls and boys. It makes you think and imagine more than the pap we shove at kids today…
I remember seeing that movie in school and screaming when the Oompa Loopah’s came out. I managed to, like most people, surpress my terror into a tiny deep dark pocket of my psyche.
Then one day I was watching Rosie O’Donald (remember when she used to be cool? me either) anyway…watching her show she started seeing the Oompah Loopah song. I remember feeling vaguely nautious and not a little bit terrified…in fact a whole lot of scared goin’ on.
Again…I squashed my fear into the deepest recesses of my psyche.
Now it has all been unleashed again and there is no telling what evil will come due to the phreaky orange Oompah Loopah Midgets.
Still want to see the movie though…Johnny Depp…yummmmmm
